CounterPath Showcases Voice, Video, Messaging, Presence and New Cloud Offering at Enterprise Connect

Company to Demonstrate How its Mobile, Tablet and Desktop Softphones, Configuration Server and New Cloud Offering Arm IT Managers with Tools to Meet the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Challenge While Optimizing User Experience

CounterPath Showcases Voice, Video, Messaging, Presence and New Cloud Offering at Enterprise Connect

Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 25, 2014

As enterprises and SMBs increasingly turn to SIP, IP PBXs and softphones to power their business communications, some of the biggest challenges they are met with are ensuring interoperability among devices and platforms, configuring and deploying software to end users, and managing the implications of users bringing their own devices into the workplace. CounterPath Corporation (TSX-V: CCV) (OTCBB: CPAH) today announced it is demonstrating how enterprises can meet these challenges with its CounterPath-powered solutions at Enterprise Connect in Orlando, Fla. this week.

CounterPath’s demonstrations will include Bria desktop and mobile softphone applications, the CounterPath Client Configuration server and a sneak peek of SoftPhone.com™, a new cloud offering for SMBs connecting CounterPath X-Lite softphone users to other X-Lite softphone users while leveraging the existing IP PBX or hosted SIP-based service for call termination.

Enterprises and SMBs are increasingly forced to embrace the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) movement. A recent study by In-Stat revealed that users’ companies only paid for 22 percent of the tablets used in an enterprise environment. This is causing pressure on IT managers to find communications solutions and applications that seamlessly work across any device and on any platform, and efficient ways to manage those implementations.

CounterPath’s award-winning Bria desktop and mobile softphones are based on open standards, and have been certified interoperable with the industry’s leading enterprise IP PBX and platform providers including Alcatel-Lucent, Asterisk, Avaya, BroadSoft, Cisco, Digium, Ericsson, GENBAND, Huawei, Mavenir, Metaswitch, Mitel Networks, NEC, Nortel, Panasonic and Siemens. This flexibility means enterprises and SMBs can reliably deploy CounterPath softphones quickly, broadly and cost-effectively instead of worrying that each unique implementation will require extensive, expensive customization and troubleshooting.

Once deployed, softphone endpoints can be managed easily with the CounterPath Configuration Server (CCS). The CCS allows IT managers to automatically apply the proper configuration to each end-user device, periodically update those configurations and remotely upgrade client-side software. This means technical features such as dial plans, codec selection, firewall settings and account settings are managed centrally and pushed to users seamlessly, ultimately reducing support calls to IT managers and speeding up deployments.

Further, X-Lite users within SMB environments will soon be able to enhance their enterprise communications even further with CounterPath’s new cloud offering, SoftPhone.com. Targeted to 25-30 seat SMBs, SoftPhone.com will enable business users to make X-Lite to X-Lite voice and video calls for free using the SoftPhone.com cloud offering, with call termination being seamlessly routed over the IP PBX when the recipient is not connected on the SoftPhone.com network. The cloud offering leverages the user’s existing business number as their SoftPhone.com identity, and allows unified presence so SoftPhone.com users can see the status of other SoftPhone.com users (busy, on the phone, away), whether their contacts are on a SoftPhone.com-powered call or on their IP PBX. CounterPath will offer a sneak peek of the cloud offering to Enterprise Connect event attendees and will invite selected users to participate. SoftPhone.com is planned to be generally available in the second quarter of 2012.

“CounterPath softphones consistently provide a superior out-of-the-box experience, making implementation in the enterprise and SMB environment fast, seamless and cost-effective,” said Todd Carothers, CounterPath Senior Vice President of Marketing and Products. “Our desktop and mobile softphone applications and configuration server give IT managers the tools they need to meet communications challenges including BYOD.”

“We’re also excited to offer a sneak peek of our newest addition to the X-Lite solution, SoftPhone.com. Our X-Lite users within the 25-30 seat SMBs have pushed CounterPath to offer a cloud offering they can use within their environment. Many users felt abandoned following Skype’s decision to no longer support Skype for Asterisk. We are answering their requirements for an overlay cloud-based offering that works with their current IP PBX and is powered by last mile carriers. X-Lite combined with SoftPhone.com is one step further to creating the socially connected SMB. Users can now escalate from presence to messaging to voice to video, all within the SoftPhone.com cloud and while completing other calls as usual via their IP PBX or hosted carrier service. It’s a win-win for SMBs, the Asterisk community and carriers.”
