CounterPath Solutions Inc. (OTCBB: CTPS), a leading provider of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and Video over IP SIP softphones, has announced a licensing agreement which will allow mobilkom austria to use a white-label version of CounterPath's softphone to power its VoIP pilot launch.
The “A1 over IP” friendly customer trial launch enables end users the ability to make voice over internet calls with a softphone application on their PCs or laptops and also choose to receive mobile telephone calls on their softphone. This is an important step towards satisfying market needs concerning IP-based communication services. By receiving calls directed to their mobility number or by making calls on their mobility number with the CounterPath softphone, customers have more flexibility and comfort in handling incoming and outgoing calls. At the same time they can enjoy all the advantages that VoIP offers, including real-time multimedia communications, Fixed Mobile Convergence, and increased cost savings. CounterPath and mobilkom austria are currently working together to further adapt the service according to customers’ needs and will provide end users with additional multi-media features and services.
“As of August 2006, 1.154 million Austrians were already using VoIP,” said Hannes Ametsreiter, CMO mobilkom Austria. “It is expected that in Western Europe, 33% of all cellular voice minutes will be carried by cellular VoIP by 2015. With “A1 over IP” mobilkom austria places our customers at the forefront of this growing trend and allows them to benefit from the many advantages of VoIP. We decided to work with CounterPath to offer this service to our customers, as they are best able to meet our needs for an innovative and user-friendly VoIP PC Client.”
“We are very excited to be working with mobilkom austria,” said Donovan Jones, president and COO of CounterPath. “The ability to help mobilkom extend the benefits of VoIP to its consumers demonstrates the opportunity of accessing the enormous mobility customer market. CounterPath’s mission is to exploit the power of Internet communications by developing innovative, open-standard solutions that enable our customers to deliver an integrated and consistent multimedia experience to their marketplace. Our collaboration on this pilot represents not only another instance of CounterPath leading softphone application innovation,, but also an example of the telecommunication industry’s increasingly widespread adoption of VoIP,” he continued.

The company, headquartered in Vienna, generated revenues of EUR 1,719.1 million in the 2005 business year.
