CounterPath Corporation (NASDAQ: CPAH) (TSX: CCV), a developer of award-winning over-the-top (OTT) Unified Communications solutions for enterprises and operators, today announced the commercial release of the Messaging and Presence software module for its Stretto PlatformTM. This server-side add-on is based on the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) that is widely used throughout the world and will allow small and medium sized businesses (SMB), enterprises and operators to offer innovative and secure messaging and presence services to their employees and customers.
According to Gartner and the Radicati Group, by 2016 businesses are expected to spend $1.6 billion on Instant Messaging and Presence (IMP) infrastructure while service providers are expected to spend over $2.3 billion on messaging platforms, creating an aggregate market of nearly $4 billion dollars by 2016.
The StrettoTM Platform XMPP Messaging & Presence Module:
- Enables enterprises to launch in-house messaging and presence services for higher employee productivity while eliminating security threats posed by third-party OTT messaging services
- Positions operators to launch innovative new services for their business and retail subscribers
- Makes contact integration seamless by leveraging existing Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) implementations for both user authentication and roster/vcard functions
- Supports single and multi-tenanted environments to accommodate different deployment models for operators and enterprises
“We have commercial agreements with several businesses and enterprises looking to deploy seamless and secure messaging and presence services as an overlay to their existing IT infrastructure,” said Todd Carothers, EVP of Marketing and Products at CounterPath. “Currently, many businesses are leveraging third-party consumer-focused messaging and presence applications in their daily operations. These third-party consumer apps are less efficient than our solution which is compatible with most contact databases and can be deployed in either cloud or premise based configurations. With the launch of CounterPath’s Messaging and Presence Module, businesses can now bring all communications back within the secure confines of the corporate firewall by offering employees an enterprise grade version of the services they need and use in their everyday lives.”
The CounterPath Stretto Platform allows SMB, enterprise and operator customers to manage and enhance Unified Communications solutions by tightly coupling Bria desktop, tablet and mobile softphone clients with client provisioning and user management, advanced mobility call management, and messaging and presence services while providing real-time analytics. The solution is flexible, modular and agnostic to existing network elements, and modules can be purchased individually or in groupings to further enhance specific module features.
The XMPP Messaging and Presence Module is part of a suite of messaging and presence solutions for the Stretto Platform which also includes SIP SIMPLE messaging and presence, SMS over IP and Messaging Sync.
