Polycom Communicator PC Speakerphone To Support BroadSoft, CounterPath and Polycom PVX Applications With HD Voice

Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 29, 2014Polycom, Inc. [NASDAQ: PLCM], the world’s leading provider of unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced expanded application support for the award-winning Polycom Communicator™, a portable and affordable personal speakerphone that enables a hands-free experience with leading soft phones and desktop video applications. The device includes Polycom HD Voice™ technology delivering four times the clarity of a normal call along with natural, two-way conversations without echoes or feedback. Originally launched with support for Skype, the Polycom Communicator now also supports the CounterPath eyeBeam™ and X-Lite IP soft phones and the Polycom PVX™ PC-based desktop video conferencing application, with support for BroadSoft’s BroadWorks® Communicator IP soft phone anticipated by this summer.

Polycom will demonstrate the new application support for Polycom Communicator this week at the VON Conference and Expo taking place March 20-22, 2007 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. (Polycom booth #625, BroadSoft booth #1227, CounterPath Solutions booth #741)

“The use of soft phones, desktop video and other real-time communications applications on the PC is becoming an integral part of the everyday work routine for distributed workers around the globe,” said Sunil Bhalla, senior vice president and general manager of voice communications at Polycom. ”The Polycom Communicator gives workers a convenient means of using these tools hands-free while delivering outstanding voice quality that exceeds the clarity of a regular analog phone call by 400 percent.“

The Polycom Communicator features software integration with Skype, BroadSoft’s BroadWorks Communicator (anticipated Summer 2007), CounterPath eyeBeam and X-Lite and Polycom PVX applications to deliver a best-in-class user experience with Polycom HD Voice quality, which includes wideband audio (device supports up to 22 kHz), echo cancellation, full-duplex (two-way) conversations and dynamic noise reduction. The integration also allows users to launch the soft phone or video application, as well as answer and hang up calls and control call volume and mute, directly from buttons on the Polycom Communicator device. This allows users to minimize the disruption of answering a call while working with other applications on their PC.

The PDA-sized device is small enough to fit in a coat pocket for easy portability, features a built-in USB cable that also powers the device, and includes a pair of high-fidelity, 360-degree microphones that enable natural conversations with small groups. In addition to the core speakerphone capabilities, the Polycom Communicator also offers high-quality audio output for playing music, games, etc. from a laptop or desktop PC.

“Polycom Communicator’s software integration with CounterPath’s eyeBeam 1.5 and X-Lite 3.0 soft phones enhances the hands-free experience that is inherent in our solutions,” said Donovan Jones, president and COO of CounterPath. ”Built on open standards, our SIP-based clients are fully interoperable with devices conforming to these same standards. When used in conjunction with Polycom Communicator, these soft phone solutions offer increased flexibility in terms of how the user can manage their voice and video calls and multi-party conference calls, significantly adding to the value of the user experience.“

”Today’s business environment requires that dispersed workforces collaborate on projects in real time. We developed the BroadWorks platform to meet those demands, and our BroadWorks Communicator soft phone enables end-users to connect via voice and video using their PC or laptop,“ said David Bukovsky, vice president of products for BroadSoft. ”The Polycom Communicator device will deliver the business-class voice quality end-users expect and will further the adoption of the soft phone by the enterprise as an invaluable real-time communications application.“

Polycom is introducing a new model, the Polycom Communicator C100, that complements the existing Polycom Communicator C100S, which is a co-branded device for use with Skype. Both models (C100, C100S) will work with all described applications, but application-specific software drivers may be required to enable complete functionality with a respective application. Details and software drivers are available at www.polycom.com/communicator

Polycom also offers a Computer Calling Kit option for its SoundStation2™, SoundStation2W™ and VoiceStation® 500 conference phones, enabling those phones to work with PC-based IP soft phones.
