Systems Administrator

Description:

CounterPath is looking for a Systems Administrator to join the IT department in building and maintaining the overall performance and reliability of our multifaceted workstation environment and underlying infrastructure. As a System Administrator, you will install, configure, maintain, support and optimize all network hardware, software and communication links to support on-site and remote users. You will be a fast learner and detail-oriented person with proven problem solving, leadership and troubleshooting skills. Candidates must have proven hands-on abilities with a large variety of software and hardware components and be comfortable working in a fast paced environment.

This position is part time and based in Kanata, Ontario.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide first-rate internal support and excellent customer service to all departments within the organization
  • Support employees with Windows, Linux and Mac desktops and notebooks
  • Support end-user software development environment
  • Provide end-user support for internal VPN infrastructure
  • Design, install, administer, and troubleshoot core architecture technologies including Windows and Unix/Linux servers
  • Provide Operating System support for adding, changing and moving internal users in the company network
  • Ensure strong network security is in place at all times, including the installation of security updates, the correct configurations of firewalls, web and applications servers and daily monitoring of server and network operations
  • Support, maintain and troubleshoot all aspects of an IP telephony environment including soft phones, SIP servers and QoS technologies
  • Ensure that detailed documentation for servers and network infrastructure including procedural documentation for general maintenance and network diagrams, is kept current and up to date
  • Provide on-call and after-hours support as required to ensure 24x7 operation
  • Follow all standard operating procedures and policies and all company and departmental guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computing Science or a related degree, or equivalent education and work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in hardware and software support to end-users, including Windows 7, Windows 2008, Mac OS X and Linux
  • Significant experience in the installation, configuration and maintenance of networking hardware including routers, firewalls, gateways and switches, including Cisco routers and gateways and Linux networking devices
  • Knowledge of information security including experience with routers, firewalls, VPN, anti-virus and anti-spam technologies such as OpenVPN and IPSec, MS Security Essentials
  • Excellent working knowledge and understanding of IP networking protocols such as DNS, DHCP, TCP, UDP, RIP, VLANs and SIP
  • Excellent understanding of software development environments and tools including SVN and Visual Studio
  • Significant experience in the implementation and administration of Windows and Linux servers including Active Directory environments, database systems (MS SQL, MySQL), web servers (IIS, Apache) and other server applications
  • Good knowledge of scripting technologies such as shell, PHP, Perl, SQL and Visual Basic Script
  • VoIP experience is preferred but not required
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Fast learner, creative problem solver
  • Ability to consistently deliver top level results in a team environment
