Description:

The key responsibility of this position is to define the market requirements for new product initiatives, spanning CounterPath’s portfolio of soft phone client and server products, through collaboration with customers and CounterPath’s Sales organization. The market requirements shall be specified with an appropriate level of detail to enable the R&D team to develop product that meets all of the market requirements. This selected candidate shall be accountable for the success of the product initiatives, and shall proactively work with customers, 3rd party ecosystem partners (where applicable) and internal CounterPath teams to drive the new initiatives and to ensure that the product meets the needs of the majority of customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Feature Description specifications that clearly describing market level requirements, with a prioritized set of deliverables
  • Develop customer-friendly presentations to describe the proposed solution, to be used as a basis for soliciting customer input
  • Develop deep subject matter expertise for specific product initiatives and to stay current with industry trends
  • Support sales teams in driving early wins
  • Perform analysis of ecosystems players and competitors
  • Work with Marketing team to drive the new product initiatives into the market

Required Skills:

This position requires a broad set of skills – technical, interpersonal and market acumen. The position will involve ongoing interaction with lead customers and thus well-developed customer presentation skills is a key requirement.

  • Technical – a strong background in Voice over IP (VoIP), Video and Instant Messaging / Presence solutons is required, as well as strong knowledge of SIP soft phone clients for desktop, mobile and tablet platforms. Knowledge of IMS, RCS, web collaboration, fixed mobile convergence, Software as a Service (SaaS), APIs, call centers and provisioning systems is also required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills area are needed to assist Sales with customer engagements; skills related to product positioning are also important
  • Market –The candidate must have deep knowledge the VoIP market, with strong analytical skills to research market trends, ecosystem partners and competitors

This job requires the individual to work independently with minimal supervision. The employee must be able to set plans and manage their goals and objectives. The job requires the candidate to exercise judgment when negotiating commitments with customers, partners and the sales teams.

Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.SC) degree in engineering or computer science
  • 5+years of experience in Product Management
  • 5+ years of experience in the area of communications and/or Voice over IP
  • 2+ years of experience in working with customers
  • Written technical and executive level communications
  • Delivering external customer presentations
  • Building relationships
  • Proactive and autonomous in getting the information from other people
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team and lead a team
  • Must possess a sense of urgency, will be an energetic self-starter who can combine hands-on implementation with a strategic, long-term view of the industry
  • Customer focused and ready to go the extra mile to understand why things are being done, not just what and how things are done
  • Must be extremely organized, detail oriented and with strong communication and problem solving skills
