Real-Time Communications (RTC) Clients—Present and Future Roadmap
Speaker: Todd Carothers, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Products, CounterPath

Real-Time Communications (RTC) clients are becoming a necessity for communications for traditional telcos (Operator OTT) and enterprises (Enterprise OTT) as well as disruptive Internet OTT providers such as Skype, Viber and others. With this demand come a number of solutions based on standards and proprietary technologies to meet the services gaps as well as to become the “face of the service”. RTC client technology decisions are important depending on the exact requirements of the service solution — are the communications going to be embedded within a browser or service? Should the client be a separate application that stands on its own? Should the applicant leverage APIs to other applications and services? Is customization required? — and many other considerations. According to Gartner, PC and smartphone soft clients will have the largest overall growth for business lines alone through the next five years. Service providers are including RTC clients in their offerings with new services to be competitive in the market. This session will examine the current status of RTC clients, their typical functions and the roadmap of where the technologies will lead the future of RTC clients through the market lens of Operator OTT, Enterprise OTT and Internet OTT solutions.

This session will discuss the challenges with remote workers and, understanding they are part of business culture, how to most effectively manage them.

Panel: Making BYOD Work For Your Business
Tuesday, August 12, 2014 / 3:15 - 4:00 PM
Speaker: Jim O'Brien, Vice President of Server Engineering, CounterPath

Organizations rely on the rapidly evolving capabilities of mobile devices to enable their employees, contractors, and partners. Whether immediate access to data over a communication channel, in-device app use, or engagement using Unified Communication tools, modern devices enhance productivity, reduce costs, and accelerate results. But they don’t come without risk, which can be an increasing challenge for business executives with a mandate to ensure data and system security and integrity. This session will discuss the policies and practices that lead to successful BYOD implementations – and others that will leave your businesses at risk.

Speaker Session: The Rise of the Enterprise Consumer
June 10, 2014 – Session 2
Speaker: Donovan Jones, President and CEO, CounterPath

It's no secret that the telecommunications sector is in a state of flux. Internet Over-the-Top (OTT) providers like Skype have made their mark by encroaching upon business users, creating security and productivity issues within the Enterprise. There is no denying it: 2014 is the year for IT directors to leverage (OTT) technology to neutralize Internet OTT applications within the enterprise by providing similar and even better offerings. In fact, it's already begun and pioneering companies across the world are leading the way.

A new telco world order is challenging enterprises, where the growing phenomenon is that of the enterprise consumer. Employees are increasingly sophisticated end users that are forcing the consumerization of IT. They view their smartphone as a multipurpose device built for work and play demanding unified voice, video, messaging and presence services. Accordingly, they want all apps and services to feature consumer functionality – easy to install, clearly-defined benefits and little need for backend support – Enterprise OTT does this.

Panel: The Impact of WebRTC on Video Collaboration
Thursday, February 27, 2014 / 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
Participants: Jim O'Brien, CounterPath; Pam Avila, CEO, DiscussUC; Bryan Johns, Product Manager, Network Services, Digium Inc.; Chris Vitek, President, WebRTC Strategies

Everyone is talking about WebRTC. But what is it and what does it mean for partners? WebRTC is an emerging open source video standard being developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that enables browser-to-browser applications for video chat, voice calling and peer-to-peer file sharing without plug-ins. It has the potential to supplant device-native apps with Web-based ones that work on any device. Indeed, the arrival of WebRTC, a free and easy-to-use capability, appears to circumvent legacy video collaboration models. This session will discuss the opportunities and threats of WebRTC for channel partners.

Panel: Call Recording / Call Archiving
Tuesday, January 28, 2014 / 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM
Participants: Khris Kendrick, CounterPath; Paul Friedman, AudioCodes; Howard Lee, Spoken Communications

Call recording is a common practice in contact centers and any field with regulatory compliance issues, such as the financial, health care, and legal industries. It also the first step in collecting data for use in value-added applications such as Hypervoice and voice analytics. A discussion of the issues around call recording will include: What will it take for call recording to move out of niche markets and into mainstream business use? What are the social and regulatory hurdles inhibiting call recording? How are call recording companies preparing to move beyond recording and into more sophisticated uses of the collected voice? Will there be open APIs? Will recording be a "cloud" function for most businesses? What impact will higher quality voice have on call recording?

Panel: Voice Analytics – Mining Call Center Traffic for Competitive Intelligence and Business Improvement
Tuesday, January 28, 2014 / 3:30 PM
Moderator: Frank Ohlhorst, eWeek | Participants: Todd Carothers, CounterPath

Large call centers have been recording customer interactions for years -- everyone's heard "your call may be monitored or recorded for quality purposes." Voice analytics enables corporations to process through the vast volume of daily voice calls into actionable data, screening for key words and phrases, spotting competitive marketing offers, and even being able to identify emotional tone in calls. A number of firms are moving into voice analytics, with call recording companies moving to add more value while established ventures are taking dedicated solutions and translating them into cloud-based offerings. Panelists will discuss the rapidly changing landscape of voice analytics models, look at how big/small a customer has to be to benefit from the technology, and new trends in voice analytics such as emotional analysis.

Panel: Helping SMBs go Mobile
Wednesday, January 29, 2014 / 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM
Moderator: Andy Abramson | Participants: Todd Carothers, CounterPath; Raj Balasubramanian, STSM Product Design, IBM Mobile First & Cloud OE

Perhaps the greatest change in business strategy over the past five years has been the surge in mobility among workforces. Almost every business has found a need for enabling some form of mobility for their workers in order to increase business efficiency and customer satisfaction. But, in order to properly enable mobility, businesses must have the appropriate technology and partners. Mobility needs can vary drastically from one customer to another – much more so than in large enterprise environments. This session considers what mobility solutions are available, how to choose the best alternatives for SMB customers, and how to properly help them deploy mobility in their organizations.

Panel: Evolution of the Mobile SMB
Friday, January 31, 2014 / 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM
Moderator: Doug Barney, Editor-at-Large, TMCnet | Participants: Khris Kendrick, CounterPath; Hugo Aguirre, Enterprise Account Executive, AirWatch

Today’s workforce is undergoing the most significant change since the Industrial Revolution, with the growth of the Internet and IP-based services driving new work styles and structures. The result is a growing number of workers exiting traditional physical workplaces and moving into mobile environments. This new breed of always on, always connected virtual workers is being driven by cloud-based resources that enable business tools to be leveraged on any device on any network. This session will discuss the evolution of mobile technology and how SMBs can successfully increase their business process efficiency, ensuring they are able to conduct business from anywhere, including hardware requirements, cloud services, and security needs.

Panel: Enterprise Video – The Future is Now (but Skype is Free)
Friday, January 31, 2014 from 10:00 - 10:45 am
Moderator: Larry Lisser - Embrace | Panelists: Todd Carothers – CounterPath, Mark Noble - Vidyo

Cisco has predicted that 90 percent of all Internet traffic will be video this year. While that figure isn’t likely to be achieved, the mere suggestion of it reflects an extraordinary increase in the consumption of video. In fact, the majority of YouTube consumption is already taking place on mobile devices, meaning that video and mobility are rapidly converging. With so much video consumption in the consumer space, it stands to reason enterprises will also seek to leverage what has become a standard for communication. Many have already been leveraging Skype or other consumer-oriented OTT services. This session will discuss why video – both one- and two-way – is the key to enterprise communication, and how enterprises can best bring video into their communications environments, and why OTT may or may not be the best options, depending your needs, networks assets and capabilities, and other factors.

Panel: The Modern Workplace – Putting Enterprise Apps in Your Pocket
Friday, January 31, 2014 from 11:00 - 11:45 am
Moderator: Tom Keating - TMC | Panelists: Todd Carothers – CounterPath, John Cash - BlackBerry, Micaela Giuhat - BroadSoft

The modern employee can put his workplace communications services in his pockets. The ability to use your enterprise PBX on your mobile device as you would from your desk is becoming a necessity rather than a luxury – with voice, IM, presence and video – not to mention all your other enterprise applications that allow you to conduct business effectively wherever you are. It sounds like a tall order. Can it be done without massive headaches for IT departments? This session explores how enterprises can harness enterprise over the top (OTT) and cloud-based solutions and apps to keep their employees productive and on the grid no matter where they are, without months-long deployment, enormous investment or burdensome administration.
