CounterPath Technology to Bridge the Unified Communications and Virtualized Desktop Gap

CounterPath prepares to enter virtualized desktop market with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) Solutions

CounterPath Technology to Bridge the Unified Communications and Virtualized Desktop Gap

Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 22, 2014

CounterPath Corporation (NASDAQ: CPAH) (TSX: CCV), a leading developer of award-winning desktop, tablet and mobile VoIP software products and solutions, today announced that it has developed a highly scalable architecture for enabling new solutions for the rapidly growing Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) markets. CounterPath’s new Unified Communications (UC) architecture has the flexibility to handle delay-sensitive applications, such as voice, across all types of virtualized desktops including thick clients, thin clients and zero clients. A key benefit of CounterPath’s UC solution is the ability to interoperate across the broadest range of SIP-compliant network equipment.

With the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure market estimated to reach $5.6 billion by 2016 according to the 451 Group, the numbers indicate a significant adoption trend towards virtualized desktops. Examples of market leaders in this space include Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware, along with newer player Amazon Web Services (AWS), who collectively target large enterprises, call center organizations, the finance vertical and the federal government with VDI and DaaS offerings.

CounterPath’s approach enables a new way to successfully deploy UC solutions in virtualized desktop environments, which is experiencing significant growth as IT managers seek to increase desktop security while achieving significant cost efficiencies.

With virtualized desktop solutions, all applications and data remain in the data center where they can be centrally managed, with a remote link to the local client device. Users can readily move between devices while preserving their desktop environment, greatly enhancing employee mobility, data security and disaster recovery.

“CounterPath has made a commitment to the VDI and DaaS markets through development and strategic partnering,” said Todd Carothers, EVP Marketing and Products, CounterPath. “By enabling a solution that simply works for Enterprises and Service Providers, we will allow them to offer a complete Virtualized Desktop solution that delivers a scalable, robust, low-cost unified communication solution to their end users without jeopardizing the security, integrity and productivity of their customers.”
