CounterPath Launches API to Take Advantage of the Significant Footprint of Bria Desktop

CounterPath leverages API to create Microsoft Outlook® Add-In for Bria desktop softphones

CounterPath Launches API to Take Advantage of the Significant Footprint of Bria Desktop

Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 23, 2014

CounterPath Corporation (NASDAQ: CPAH) (TSX: CCV), a leading developer of award-winning desktop, tablet and mobile VoIP software products and solutions today announced a new API for the Bria for Windows Desktop product line which gives developers a platform to build and customize applications that provide access to and control over Bria’s robust unified communications solutions.

A recent report by COMMfusion found that demand for unified communications (UC) is growing with the global total market for premise-based UC expected to increase from $12.23 billion in 2011 to $20.76 billion by 2016, an increase of 69 percent. This API will help companies meet this growing need, especially in organizations that utilize call centers, customer relationship management tools and other Enterprise or SMB based solutions. The API will expand the functionality of existing applications to include presence information, instant messaging, voice and video calls and retrieve contact information. The Bria for Desktop API is available in conjunction with Bria 3.5 for Windows and includes support for branded, SaaS and retail versions of the Bria softphone.

The versatility and depth of the Bria for Desktop API is demonstrated with the recently deployed Microsoft Outlook® Add-In. This add-in gives users of the world’s leading office productivity suite access to the complete feature-set of the Bria softphone all from within the Outlook® application.

We have a significant footprint that comes from over ten years of successful deployments by CounterPath’s customers,” said Todd Carothers, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Products at CounterPath. “While some recent excitement is around browser enabled telephony applications, based on technologies such as WebRTC, Bria’s APIs extend across the browser as well as the desktop. We leveraged our APIs to build the first application for Outlook because it represented a great example of how 3rd party developers could leverage Bria as an alternative to solutions such as Microsoft’s Lync. We look forward to new applications over the next year that will drive innovation and further deployments of Bria.”

CounterPath is a global leader in softphone technology, with millions of endpoints downloaded and/or deployed. With the largest list of interoperability with IP PBXs and SIP-based network infrastructure soft switches, Bria is built toward industry standards with proven multimedia technology that provides a high-quality, unified communications experience and voice and video calls over fixed, mobile and Wi-Fi broadband networks. Bria’s ability to use mobile and Wi-Fi networks gives businesses new options for “always on” connectivity while realizing cost savings through free Wi-Fi networks.
