CounterPath Enables Video And Rich Voice And Messaging For Mobile Operators

Vancouver, BC, Canada — July 28, 2014CounterPath Corporation (OTCBB: CPAH; TSX-V: CCV) announced today that the company will unveil the highly anticipated next release of Bria iPhone Edition softphone, featuring video and IM/SMS support, at the 2011 Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain. With the addition of video and messaging to Bria’s HD voice capability, mobile users will now have the same enriched communications experience that the CounterPath desktop softphone is revered for worldwide. Scheduled for general release later this year, this new release empowers mobile operators in extending unified communications and other rapidly growing video-centric services to smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. A custom version of this latest release of the Bria iPhone Edition softphone is already being implemented with a major network equipment provider and Tier One operators.

“There will be over 7.1 billion mobile-connected devices in 2015,” said Todd Carothers, SVP of Marketing, CounterPath. “This, coupled with the explosive growth of smartphones that are now accounting for nearly 25% of mobile phone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2010, pave the way for advanced communications that leverage enhanced multi-media capabilities. Over-the-top (OTT) services, such as Skype, see approximately 40% of all calls starting or turning into video calls. With the commitment to IMS, mobile network operators are getting aggressive in deploying personal, two-way video solutions in their networks.”

In conjunction, CounterPath will also showcase a turnkey solution that complements our mobile softphone product offerings. This Rich Voice and Messaging Suite quickly and cost-effectively combines voice, video, short message service (SMS) and instant messaging (IM) products for use on third-party wired and wireless broadband networks. The solution enables mobile operators to quickly deploy fixed mobile convergence (FMC) services that are superior in price, flexibility and service quality to other OTT Internet telephony services. Further, the solution allows mobile operators to develop new revenue-generating and market-differentiating offerings that target mobile users across cable, digital subscriber line (DSL), fiber and fixed-wireless operators’ broadband networks.

CounterPath will be providing first-hand demonstrations of these solutions and more during Mobile World Congress 2011. Please visit us at mrkt-stg.counterpath.com/gsma to arrange a private meeting during the event. CounterPath will be located in Hall 4, Level 6, Room 4.6H21, in the Fira de Barcelona.
